CleanMy®Phone is, according to its App Store listing, an on-device cleaner by MacPaw that does not upload your pictures. The bigger iCloud risk has nothing to do with the app: with iCloud Photos on, anything you delete disappears from every device. Know that before you swipe.
Checked October 2026 against the App Store listing and public reviews.
What does CleanMy®Phone actually do with your photos?
The listing states that the app works fully on-device, lets you mark photos as Sensitive so they stay out of cleanups, and doesn’t save or upload your pictures. Independent coverage repeats that claim. The app also tracks storage use on your iPhone and in iCloud, which is a read of storage figures, not a copy of images.
Its App Store privacy label lists contact info, identifiers, usage data and diagnostics, marked as not linked to your identity.
What this gives you: a clear on-device statement from a known developer. What this does not give you: independent proof. Labels and listings are self-reported, so verify as shown below.
What happens to iCloud when you delete?
This is the part most reviews skip. If Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Photos > Sync this iPhone is on, your library is one shared library across all your devices.
- You delete a photo on the iPhone, from any app.
- It moves to Photos > Albums > Utilities > Recently Deleted on every device.
- After 30 days it is permanently erased everywhere.
Deleting does not free iCloud space until the 30 days pass or you empty Recently Deleted. See how to clear Recently Deleted. If you only want local space back, read delete photos from iPhone but not iCloud.
How to protect your library before a cleanup
- Back up: follow how to back up photos before deleting.
- Open Settings > Privacy & Security > Photos, pick the app, and consider Limited Access.
- Turn on Settings > Privacy & Security > App Privacy Report.
- After a session, open App Network Activity and check which domains were contacted.
How much does it cost?
The app is free to download. The listing describes a 1-year subscription with a 3-day free trial. Resellers advertise discounts, but the App Store price for your region is the one that counts.
Odoa as an on-device alternative
Odoa also runs 100% on-device with no account and no ads. It adds an in-app Trash and multi-level undo before anything reaches iOS’s Recently Deleted. The iCloud rule above still applies to any cleaner. See what is Odoa or the best photo cleaner apps for iPhone.
The bottom line
CleanMy®Phone’s on-device claim is consistent across its listing and coverage. Your iCloud exposure comes from sync, not from the app. Back up, check network activity once, and empty Recently Deleted only when you are sure.
